Sojourn’s Guiding Scriptures
Sojourn realizes the importance of knowing who we are and whose we are. Our guiding Scriptures show us our way. Unless otherwise noted, all verses are from the Anabaptist Community Bible.
Our Inward/Outward Journey
Matthew 5:13, 14. “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, how will it be salty again?… You are the light of the world. A city on top of a hill can’t be hidden.”
Micah 6:8. He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, to love kindness,
and to walk humble with your God?
Philippians 2:5. Adopt the attitude that was in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 46:10. Be still and know that I am God. (NRSV)
Peace
Matthew 5:9. Happy are the people who make peace, because they will be called God’s children.
Isaiah 52:7. How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of a messenger
who proclaims peace...
Justice
Leviticus 19:34. Any immigrant who lives with you must be treated as if they were one of your citizens. You must love them as yourself, because you were immigrants in the land…
Luke 4:18-19. The spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me.
He has sent me to preach good news to the poor,
to proclaim release to the prisoners
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to liberate the oppressed,
and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
Love
John 13:34 “Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other.”
I Corinthians 13:7-8. Love puts up with all things, trusts all things, hopes for all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
Deuteronomy 6:5, Mark 12:29-31, Matthew 22:37-39, Luke 10:27
The Great Commandment
Our God is the one Lord, and you must love the Lord your God with all of your heart,
with all your being, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
The second is this, You will love your neighbor as yourself.
